His Highness Prince Dr. Turki bin Saud bin Mohammed Al Saud, President of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) affirmed the depth of relations between Saudi Arabia and the People's Republic of China with whom the Kingdom has concluded a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding that contribute to strengthening and increasing rates of trade-exchange, industrial investment and the transfer of technology between the two countries.
Prince Dr. Turki who headed the delegation of Saudi Arabia to the Arab-Chinese Conference for the Transfer of Science and Technology and Cooperation in Areas of Creativity, which was held during the period (9-11) September 2015 at the Chinese city of Beichuan, stressed that such conferences are mere one of the outstanding, historic and fruitful cooperation phases within the distinguished relations between the two countries, citing the remarkable visit of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz – the then Crown Prince - to the People's Republic of China in 2014 and his constructive meetings with the Chinese leadership which put the Saudi-Chinese relations on the road to a galloping development in the various political, economic, commercial and technical fields as well as technology transfer; underlining that that visit propelled the Seno-Saudi relations to very advanced prospects.
Prince Turki outlined a number of Saudi Arabia's achievements on both the economic and investment levels: on the economic level, Prince Turki stressed that the Kingdom has become one of the largest twenty countries economically and occupied the third rank in the Group of Twenty thanks to its speed economic growth and financial system stability. On the investment level, the Prince highlighted that the Kingdom enjoys a prestigious status globally and is considered the most important investment destination for a number of factors, the most important of which are the large size of its market, its remarkable location, its modern regulations and legislation in addition to its political and economic stability.
KACST President drew attention to the aspects of development witnessed by the Kingdom in the field of higher education, where the Kingdom founded many national universities in various regions and provinces of the kingdom to accommodate the maximum number of students both males and females in the university education besides the large expansion in sending Saudi students, males and females as well, on scholarships to scientifically and technologically advanced countries including the People's Republic of China.
Prince Dr. Turki underlined that the national policy for science, technology and innovation adopted by the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2002 and whose executive plans extends over five years coincided with the overall development plans of the kingdom and integrated with them which resulted in constructing solid infrastructure for scientific research, development and innovation; stressing that this national policy also included creating new research centers as well as generous financial support for research and development.
Prince Turki indicated that the second National Science, Technology and Innovation Plan (NSTIP) begins this year and focuses on technology investment in industry and creating technology companies due to the giant steps and advancement achieved by the Kingdom in the various fields of research and development, citing that the Kingdom occupied the 35th rank on the world level in the quality of scientific research according to a report issued by Nature scientific global journal and emphasizing that the Kingdom of Saudi \Arabia remains in constant progress.
The Prince revealed the aspects of the Seno-Saudi cooperation which covers many scopes, the most important of which are petroleum, petrochemical, nuclear and renewable energy, biotechnology, and peaceful uses of space. Meantime Prince Turki stressed that work is under way on equal levels between the two countries to expand this cooperation significantly where it will extend to areas of innovation, technology incubators, and creation of small and medium-sized companies in the both countries.
It is worth mentioning that the participation of Saudi Arabia in this conference, organized by the People's Republic of China comes in response to the initiative of the Chinese President Xi Jinping that was put forward during the 6th Sino-Arab Ministerial Cooperation Forum which was held on the fifth of July 2014, where the Chinese President expressed his desire for a dialogue between the China and the Arab States to discuss establishing an Arab-Chinese center for the transfer of technology out of the willingness to revive the spirit of the Silk Road and deepening the China-Arab Cooperation.
It is also worth noting that Saudi Arabia has taken part in the Conference with a delegation consisting of a selection of specialists and researchers, headed by Prince Dr. Turki while KACST exhibited various national products in the expo accompanying the conference.
