Energy has become a top priority issue worldwide, given its interdependency and integrated relationship with the social and economic growth environment. Consequently, realizing the significance of this issue, KACST took the initiative to create, host and run “The National Program for the Management and Rationalization of Energy Consumption”, in collaboration with a number of public and non-governmental organizations, such as:
the Saudi Electricity Company, Saudi ARAMCO, SABEC, as well as the Ministry of Water and Electricity, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, the Saudi Arabian Standards Organization and the Electricity and Co-Generation Regulatory Agency.
This joint initiative aims to meet the industrial, social, environmental and economic needs of the Kingdom, by achieving the following objectives:
-To conduct detailed studies on energy consumption
-To promote awareness by boosting energy consumption efficiency
-To improve the framework for the exchange of information on reasonable energy consumption
-To study management of demand to alleviate demand peaks on electricity and improve the efficiency of energy consumption in the oil and gas sectors, and the effectiveness of indicators of energy meters
-To stimulate and promote investing in sufficient conforming technologies, in energy services companies
-To help develop regulations for the rationalization of energy consumption in construction in the Kingdom
-To develop competent human resources in the management and rationalization of energy consumption.
