Intellectual property is divided into two categories: Copyright & Industrial property.  Industrial property includes inventions (patents), trademarks, industrial designs, and geographic indications of source.

2. Which is the body responsible for implementation of intellectual property law in Saudi Arabia?

The body responsible for implementation of law of patents, layout designs of integrated circuits, plant varieties, and industrial designs is Directorate General for Industrial Property at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST). On the other hand, Ministry of Culture and Information has the responsibility of protecting Copyrights; whereas, Ministry of Commerce & Industry is responsible for Trademarks.

5. What is a Plant Varietie?

A plant variety is a plant grouping within a single botanical taxon of the lowest known rank which, irrespective of whether the conditions for the grant of a breeders right are fully met, can be defined by the expression of the characteristics resulting from a given genotype or a combination of genotypes distinguished from any other plant grouping, by the expression of at least one of the said characteristics, and considered as units with regard to its suitability for being propagated without change.
