Within the Frame of King Abdullah Initiative for Arabic Content:
Memorandum of Understanding between “Science & technology” and “Telecommunication Commission” on Arabic Domain Names

KACST and Telecommunication, and Information Technology Commission (CITC) concluded today a memorandum of understanding on fields of research and development in Arabic domain names. This initiative comes within the constructive cooperation between the two parties to achieve science & technology development and transferring technology within the frame of King Abdullah Initiative for Arabic Content, supervised by KACST in collaboration with stakeholders.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Prince Dr. Turki Saud Mohammad Al Saud, KACST Vice President for Research Institutes and Dr. Suleiman Mirdad, CITC Vice Governor in presence of high-ranking officials from both entities.
The memorandum, signed today morning in KACST headquarter in Riyadh, stated that KACST, represented by Computer and Electronics Research Institute and CITC represented by Saudi Network Information Center (SaudiNIC), would carry out a number of joint research proposals including preparing studies, developing applications and software accessories in the field of domain names. CITC would specify research projects besides supervision and advisory necessary to carry out these research projects.
This memorandum of understanding achieves several goals that the two parties aspire to achieve within the mission-agenda assigned to them. KSCST would carry out researches and support them for applied purposes in varied scientific fields including using and boosting Arabic in computer and information technology besides fostering strategic technologies comprehending information technology within the Comprehensive National Plan for Science, Technology and Innovation.
On the other side, CITC would outspread communication services and awareness of communication technology. It would also secure a fair organizational environment among all stakeholders availing capabilities and distinguished technical and practical experiences in varied computer fields particularly supporting using Arabic in domain names that would lead by its turn to the wide use of information technology in the kingdom.
