Using an air balloon
"Science & Technology" Provides the Red Crescent with an Accurate Filming of the Holy Sites
4/1/1433

King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), represented by the National Program of Electronics, Communications and Photonics, took an active part in the activities of this year's Hajj 1432 H, through its support to the Saudi Red Crescent Authority with one of its research projects.
KACST launched and operated air balloon system, that is one of the Program’s applied research projects, at Arafat Mount in order to increase wireless coverage for communication devices, as well as to transmit live video coverage and follow-up cases from a height of 200 meters.
This system is based on an air balloon fitted with wireless communication systems’ boosters that supply full coverage of the Holy Sites, in addition to a camera with advanced and accurate specifications that are not affected by spinning or vibration to give clear and stable imaging of the entire area to be transferred to the command and control center and the center of the Red Crescent in Riyadh.
The balloon can be raised to the height of more than 1000 feet; meanwhile it has proved its effectiveness in imaging and transmission-relay even at an altitude of 200 feet only, which fully secures wireless coverage of the area besides visible transmission coverage of the area.
It is worth mentioning that KACST’s participation comes within its community service activities, as well as providing the public and private sectors with the latest applied technology solutions that facilitate performing their duties.
