Inaugurate the Joint Program of Intellectual property Management

Prince Dr. Turki bin Saud bin Mohammad Al Saud, KACST Vice President for Research Institutes recently inaugurated the Program of Intellectual property Management in collaboration with IBM Corporation. The event took place in the workshop that KACST held for this occasion in its headquarter in Riyadh.
The Prince Dr. indicated that this joint program targets helping researchers to explore prospects of acquiring patents before starting their research proposals stressing that KACST does not support any research proposal unless prospects of acquiring its patents are clear.
Dr. Turki pointed out that KACST-supported researches are oriented researches within the scopes of Science and Technology National Plan and with clear prospects of acquiring patents. He highlighted that this step serves both Science and Technology National Plan in particular and economy of the kingdom in general whereas acquiring patents would serve manufacturing and marketing the product on the local level and abroad which by its turn would benefit the kingdom.
Quiet a good number of high-ranking personalities and experts from both KACST and IBM attended the workshop that discussed a number of important issues. The most important of these issues were the role of KACST Development Center for Science and Technology in the process of organizing patents, means of developing a program for preserving KACST Patents besides KACST copyright program, the general objectives of this program and timetable for carrying it out. IBM experts gave a presentation explaining the joint copyright program through elaborating its work plan that would be carried out within the next two coming years.
KACST & IBM joint teamwork would hold a number of small workshops within the coming days with each sector of the sectors of the Technology National Plan to discuss problems encountered by researches to acquire patents.
