Science & Technology Signs Cooperation Agreement with Macmillan Scientific Communications
Dr. Al-Suwaiyel: The agreement Contributes to boosting the Arabic Content on the Internet

King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and Macmillan Scientific Communications (MSC), an exclusive partner to Nature Publishing Group (NPG), signed today an agreement of co-operation. Under the terms of the agreement, all Saudi universities will have online access for 12 months to the international journal of science Nature, including the complete archive back to 1869 as a phase of an ambitious cooperation under this to the develop a translated version of Nature magazine for scientists in the Arab world.
All public and private universities in the Kingdom will have full-text access online to all available Nature content with its corpora of over 140 years that are the richest and most cited researches in the history of science including the latest most effective scientific papers.
According to the agreement, the regularly updated Nature Arabic News website and monthly Arabic-language version of Nature magazine content are expected to launch in 2012. The new publication will allow native Arabic speakers throughout the world to access in their own language top quality science news and comment from Nature, as well as summaries of all the research papers from the world’s premier multidisciplinary journal. All content will be freely available from the publication's website.
Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Suwaiyel, KACST President stressed that the agreement is one of the tools of broadly and distinguishably supporting and boosting the Arabic content on the internet, adding that this comes within King Abdullah Initiative for the Arabic Content that is implemented under KACST’s supervision in collaboration with other stakeholders whether inside the kingdom or abroad to develop the content quantitatively and qualitatively.
KACST President emphasized that signing this agreement comes within KACST’s commitment to develop the array of science, technology and innovation eco-system and invest in this array to promote building up a knowledge-based society that serves by its turn the sustainable development in the kingdom, highlighting, meanwhile, that educational and research programs are the real key to realising this goal.
Dr. Al-Suwaiyel pointed out that services provided by this agreement are exalted and highly contributes to securing rich informational support to Saudi scientists and researchers besides access to prominent scientific researches that all constitute a large tributary to support scientific research movement in Saudi universities and the national research centres, in addition to securing the proper scientific eco-system for all stockholders.
It is worth mentioning that Macmillan is committed to working with institutions in the Middle East region. In March 2010, NPG launched Nature Middle East (www.nature.com/naturemiddleeast). The website showcases scientific and medical research from the Arabic-speaking Middle East region and is continuously updated with articles in English and Arabic.
