The Saudi International Petrochemical Technologies Conference2011 Concludes its Activities

Activities of The Saudi International Petrochemical Technologies Conference2011 were concluded at King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) Headquarters in Riyadh today in presence of prominent scientists and specialists in petrochemical technologies who presented more than 20 work paper during the days of the conference.
The second and last day of the conference started by a lecture by Prof. Omar M. Yaghi, the international expert in Physical Sciences, University of California, United States of America and professor of Irving and Jean Stone Chair through which he discussed metal-organic frameworks and their applications to clean energy.
Then, activities of the first session chaired by Dr. Ayedh sa’ad Al-Shehry, from King Khalid University started under the title of  Advances In Petrochemical Catalysis,  during which  two scientific papers were presented,  the first tackled Using Metathesis to Control Polymer Morphology by Prof. Kenneth Boone Wagener from  University of Florida, United States of America while the second paper that was presented by Professor Prof. Ibrahim Al Najjar Research Professor, KACST was titled “A Novel Single-Site Catalyst for Olefin Polymerization”
The second session dealt with Recent Developments in petrochemical Processes and was chaired by Dr. Fahad A. Al-Sherehy, the General Manager of SABIC Technology Center at Riyadh. It comprehended three scientific papers; the first of which was presented by Dr. Ram Prakash Verma, R&D Consultant of Haryana Corporate, Faridabad, India, where he presented an overview about Recent Advances in Petrochemical Processes. The second paper handled Catalytic Syntheses of Cyclic and Dialkyl Carbonates from CO2 or Urea and was presented by Dr. Youquan Deng
Research Professor, Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China while the third paper that was presented by Prof. Jianwen DA, Director of  Research Institute of Qilu Petrochemical Company, SINOPEC, China took up Advances on the Catalysts and Processes R&D in RIQPC.
Sustainability in Petrochemicals Industries was the main core of the third session that was chaired by Eng. AbdulMajeed Al-Maymoon, Director of Clusters Industrial Enabling, National Industrial Cluster, Development Program. The session included three scientific papers. Prof. Peter Philip Edwards, Head of Inorganic Chemistry, University of Oxford, United Kingdom presented the first paper that touched on Energy Storage through the Chemical Bonds while Dr. Ken Miller Sustainability GM, SABIC, Saudi Arabia presented the second paper that elaborated on Sustainability Implications for the Middle East Chemical Industry. Dr. Mohammed C. Al-Kinany, Associate Professor, Petrochemicals Research Institute KACST presented the third paper in this session that discussed Supported Nano-Catalyst for Clean Fuel Distillates Production Free of Sulphur, Nitrogen, and Aromatic Compounds.
The last session of the conference, chaired by Dr. Fares D. Alsewailem
Assistant Director of KACST Petrochemicals Research Institute for Scientific Affairs, complemented discussing the advances in petrochemical catalysis with three more scientific papers. The first paper, presented by Prof. Lachezar Angelov Petrov Professor, SABIC Chair in Catalysis, King Abdulaziz University, explained the Recent Progress in the Catalytic Petrochemical Processes while Dr. Saleh Ibrahim Al-Quraishi, Assistant Professor, King Fahd University for Petroleum and Minerals detailed on Microwave Spent Catalyst Decoking. Dr. Ahmad  Alshammari Assistant Research Professor at  KACST presented the last scientific work paper in the conference where he discussed Nano-Gold Catalysts for the Production of Adipic Acid from the Direct Oxidation of Cyclohexane Using Green Chemistry Route.
