Announcing names of Almarai Prize for Scientific Innovation Winners in its Tenth Edition
 
 

The Supreme Board of “Almarai” Prize for Scientific Innovation its tenth edition announced names of the prize winners in its four branches: the branch of the distinguished scientist in Zoology; the branch of creative scientific work in fields of Electric Engineering and Environmental Pollution; the branch of Scientific Research Prize for Women in Dentistry and the branch of the Research Unit Prize in chemistry.
The announcement came during the press conference held by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) at its headquarters, following the meeting of the Supreme Board for the prize during which names of the winners for the year of 1432 hijri were approved. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al-Suwaiyel, KACST President and President of the Supreme Board for the prize in presence of Prince Sultan bin Mohammed bin Saud Al-Kabeer,   Chairman of Almarai Corporation and Vice-President of the Supreme Board of the prize, Secretary General of the prize, and a number of members of the Supreme Board for the prize.
The Supreme Board for the prize congratulated the entire prize at its tenth edition, all scientists and researchers who submitted their researches, as well as arbitrators for submitted researches. The Supreme Board expressed their appreciation and gratitude for the great efforts exerted by the ex-Secretary General of the prize Dr. Abdullah n Ahmed AlRashid for ten years bygone through the life-span of the prize.  The Board also wished success and prosperity to his successor, Dr. Abdulaziz Mohamed Al Swailem, KACST Vice President for Scientific Research Support.
The prize of the distinguished scientist in Zoology was awarded to Dr. Ali Abdullah Al Qaraawi, Hail University while the prize of the creative scientific work in the field of environmental pollution was shared equally between two works: the first is entitled "Laser induced optical catalyst and its applications in the removal of phenol and water treatment using catalysts such as nickel oxide” by Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Jindal, and others from the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals.
The second work that was awarded the prize of the creative scientific work was a patent entitled "A new technique to remove heavy metals from wastewater: electrolyte- electrodialytic integration device and the process of metals recovery from sewerage water," by Dr. Sayed Muhammad Jaweed Zaidi, and others from University of King Fahd of Petroleum and Minerals.
In regard to, electrical engineering, the prize was withheld because of lacking high-quality works for this year, while the Scientific Research Prize for Women in Dentistry was awarded to the research, entitled "Tooth decay and selected risk factors for infection among a group of electrolyte- electrodialytic integration appliance diabetic,” submitted by Lady Dr. Safia Ali Alatas and Dr. Sulaiman Auda, King Abdulaziz University
The prize of the Research Unit Prize in the field of chemistry was awarded to the Center for Refining and Petrochemicals at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals.  The Supreme Board approved areas of 11th Almarai Prize for Scientific Innovation 11th to be as follows: the distinguished scientist prize will be in the field of renewable energy, the creative scientific work prize will be in dates- technology, and petrochemical industries, scientific research prize for women will be in medicine, and Research Unit Prize will be in the field of genetic engineering.
