Global Institute for Water, Environment and Health (GIWEH) Announces Princess Dr. Mashael Bint Muhammad Winner of its Award for Water
Prince Dr. Turki Saud Mohammad Al Saud, Vice President of King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) for Research Institutes received in KACST headquarters yesterday a delegation from Saudi Aramco on whose top Engineer Abdullah Al-Saadan, Vice President for Engineering Services, Mr.Moa’atasm Al Ma’ashouk, Vice President for Business Development, Eng. Omar Bazaheer, the Chief Engineer and a number of Aramco directors.
Prince Turki welcomed the delegation wishing that their visit would achieve the desired benefits indicating that this visit comes as a natural result of the well-established relationship between KACST and Aramco those targets serving the national development of the kingdom. The Prince lauded the depth of this relationship that resulted in the participation of a good number of Aramco engineers, researchers and administrators in various studies, projects and committees pertinent KACST and national plans.
KACST Vice President for Research Institutes highlighted that the National Plan for Science, Technology and Innovation” that KACST prepared and supervise since carrying it out since 2007 in cooperation with related bodies including Saudi Aramco has achieved KACST qualitative and quantitative move whereas the percentage of supporting scientific researches in universities and research institutions has doubled to more than 30 times.
Prince Dr. Turki revealed that KACST had supported scientific research in universities and research institutions by more than a billion riyal during the two past years adding that KACST researchers dedicate themselves at the present time, through 7 institutes, 12 national research center and 12 scientific program, to carry out more than 550 research projects in KACST laboratories while they did not exceed 20 scientific research previously.
Prince Turki reviewed KACST’s efforts in the space filed particularly in the field of satellites that provide services of following up tankers, liners and ships at seas and oceans that interest Aramco in following up transporting and marketing petroleum and derivatives.
KACST Vice President for Research Institutes disclosed that the kingdom through KACST works hard to coordinate with Arab Satellite Communications Organization ARABSAT to launch a satellite that would be allocated in full capacity to serve the kingdom’s sectors and Saudi Aramco business as well.
Then, Dr. Naif Mohamed Alabbadi, Director of Saudi Center for Energy Efficiency gave a synopsis about the center and its future plans, meanwhile, lauding the decision of the Council of Ministers to transform the provisional National Program for Administration and Rationalization of Power Consumption into the Saudi Center for Energy Efficiency that reports directly to KACST’s president
Dr. Alabbadi went on stating that the center seeks providing
services of energy- investigation and developing criteria of using energy in all sectors as per specified specifications and standards besides working on raising energy efficiency in sectors of petroleum. gas and transport as well as diffusing awareness in fields of energy conservation such as: presenting successful applications and experiments in this field, taking great interest in spreading the culture of energy rationalization in schools and other education institutions, besides building-up energy-efficiency related databases and laying foundations that help electric-loads management as well as studying appropriate methods and measurements to be applied through programs and technologies that best suit the kingdom’s environment.
Dr. Khalil Alsobhi, from the Excellence Center of Wireless Applications, followed presenting a documentary film that acquaints with the center that aims to provide expertise and consultations to communications companies, governments, communication equipments providers and organizing bodies of the communication sector targeting supporting wireless applications and securing performance laboratories to assess performance of wireless networks and enhancing their levels.
The center is considered the first initiative of Intel Corporation to shift to digital transformation outside USA in the area of Middle East, North Africa and Turkey. The center exerts efforts to raise level of education, innovation and scientific research and contributes to support Intel’s commitment to develop the coming generation efficiency array in the area that fulfills requirements of the new knowledge economy.
One of the prominent services offered by the center in the kingdom is the successful experiment during the last Haij season on a sample of pilgrims where each pilgrim was supplied with a full data card that the beneficiary authorities made use of using WiMax technology. This technology would be generalized during the coming Haij season in coordination with related authorities.
Saudi Aramco delegation, then, visited a number of KACST’s institutes and research centers including Natural Resources and Environment Research Institute, Petroleum and Petrochemicals Research Institute, National Center for Nano-Technology, the solar village at Alonianah, Badir incubator and other facilities affiliated to KACST.
