In a Workshop Held by “Science & Technology”
International and Local Experts Discuss Setting Mechanisms And Rules for International Cooperation in fields of Science & Technology

International and local experts and specialists investigated a number of rules and mechanisms that guarantee activating international agreements concluded by the Kingdom with international organizations and agencies concerned with the sector of science and technology in the workshop that KACST held in its headquarters in Riyadh with the participation of experts and specialists from Stanford Research Institute (SRI) International.
In his inauguration speech of the workshop activities, Engineer Fahd Sultan Ben Hureeb, the supervisor of KACST International Cooperation Directorate, affirmed the existence of obstacles that hinder achieving the desired outcomes from cooperation projects, mutual agreements and collective agreements the kingdom concludes with countries and institutions that are advanced scientifically and technologically.
Engineer Ben Hureen attributed the causes to many reasons that included the absence of the adequate knowledge of the importance of the scientific and technological issues proposed for cooperation and the nature of these issues, formulating and phrasing agreement in the general sense without going deep into the detailed and executive sides, lack of abidance of the concerned parties by activating agreements or regularly following up execution phases in addition to procedures complications and absence of necessary regulations.
Ben Hureeb pointed out that KACST has approved a project that cares for rules and mechanisms of international cooperation in fields of science and technology in the kingdom among projects of the National Policy of Science and Technology. He added that that project targets setting general rules and specified regulations for formulating and phrasing international agreements for science and technology cooperation concluded between the kingdom and the other partied, that would be positively reflected on developing scientific and technological capabilities and skills of the kingdom.
The workshop that concluded its activities today targeted explaining and discussing the outcomes of the preliminary report prepared by specialists from Stanford Research Institute (SRI) International guided by findings of studies conducted by a team of the local experts in collaboration with SRI specialists.
During its first and second day, the workshop concentrated on a number of axels and issues that tackled types and models of international cooperation, formulating and phrasing such agreements and negotiating them, preparing reports on outcomes of these agreements, studying international case studies such as the USA, Korea, Singapore besides analyzing the present situation of international cooperation in fields of science and technology in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and submitting recommendations in this effect.
